Ms. Hisako Setoyama Receives Consul-General’s Commendation

 
On Nov. 15, Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito conferred the Consul-General’s Commendation to Ms. Hisako "Chako" Setoyama, President of the Shinpu Gijuku. The commendation was awarded for Ms. Setoyama's contributions to mutual understanding and goodwill between Japan and Canada. For many years Ms. Setoyama has contributed to the sister-city relationship between Toronto and Sagamihara as the Sagamihara Friendship City Advisor, planted Sakura trees across the GTA, and supported Japanese communities. Since the summer of 2011 she has supported children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake through annual invitation programs to Canada and other means.
