Ceremony Confers Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette to Mr. Roy Asa

Mr. Roy Asa, who was conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette with Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito and his wife.
 

On January 31st, Consul-General of Japan Ms. Takako Ito hosted a ceremony to confer the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette to Mr. Roy Tadayoshi Asa for his contributions in popularizing Kendo and spreading goodwill between Japan and Canada. President of the Canadian Kendo Federation Mr. Christian D’Orangeville, as well as family and friends of Mr. Asa attended the ceremony.

Mr. Asa started the Kendo Club at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) in 1964 with his father. He was the President of the Canadian Kendo Federation for almost 30 years, and contributed to popularizing and improving kendo in Canada through developing instructors, holding tournaments and seminars, and holding courses on refereeing. Today Mr. Asa still practices Kendo at the JCCC Kendo Club.

Mr. Asa, who was also the Vice-President of the International Kendo Federation for 18 years, succeeded in bringing the World Kendo Championship to Toronto in 1991, which was the first time the championship was held in Canada. This conferment was the result of his numerous contributions, and the Consulate-General of Japan extends to him our heartfelt congratulations.
