On Oct. 26, Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito attended and gave remarks at the Toronto Japanese Garden Club’s 67th Annual Flowers and Bonsai Show. Inspired by the autumn season, awards were given to the exceptional arrangements of chrysanthemum cultivated in a wide variety of ways. Because the enthronement ceremony of His Majesty the Emperor Naruhito had just taken place on Oct. 22, the single style arrangement of the chrysanthemum (ichimonji-kiku), said to be the source of the Imperial Family’s chrysanthemum crest, was also on display. Works of ikebana and bonsai with the theme of “autumn” were lined on display, and demonstrations were given on both bonsai and ikebana.
