Consul-General Ito Participates in the Opening and Awards Ceremonies of the Toronto Marathon

Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito speaks on the upcoming Tokyo Olympics at the Awards Ceremony.

On Oct. 20, Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito, along with His Worship Mayor John Tory of Toronto and others, took part in the Opening Ceremony of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, starting the race for 26,000 runners.

At the subsequent Awards Ceremony, the Consul-General went on stage to commend the efforts of the winners. This race also served to select the Canadian representatives for the Olympics to be held in Tokyo next summer. Consul-General Ito presented the Canadian male and female winners of the marathon who passed the Olympic standards and will race for Canada in Japan with the Olympic mascot Miraitowa, and lifted enthusiasm for next year’s Games among the audience in attendance.
