2019/10/16
On Oct. 6, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre hosted and served as a venue for its annual Issei Day. Approximately 300 Japanese Canadian seniors over the age of 70 participated, including first-generation issei and three seniors who were over 100 years old. Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito gave remarks, thanking the seniors for their contributions in the development of the local Japanese Canadian community and expressing hope for their continued good health. Toronto Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong was also in attendance to convey his best wishes. Participants reaffirmed old friendships, gave Japanese song and dance performances on stage, and gave choral renditions of classic Japanese songs.
