Reception Celebrates 2019 Decoration of Dr. NAKAJIMA Kazuko

On Feb. 28, Consul-General of Japan ITO Takako hosted a reception at her official residence to celebrate the conferment of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, to Dr. NAKAJIMA Kazuko for her contributions toward academic exchange between Japan and Canada and for the welfare of Japanese national residing in Canada.  In attendance were representatives of The Japanese School of Toronto Shokokai, as well as: representatives of local Japanese language schools that offer heritage Japanese courses; other Japanese language educators working in Canada; the local association of alumni of International Christian University, Dr. Nakajima’s alma mater; representatives from The Japan Foundation, Toronto; and others.  The reception was an occasion to warmly celebrate Dr. Nakajima’s decoration.

Dr. Hitomi Oketani-Lobbezoo of Eastern Michigan University reads a congratulatory message from University of Toronto Professor Emeritus James Cummins.
Dr. Nakajima was also presented with flowers.
Mr. NAKA Junya, the Principal of the Japanese School of Toronto Shokokai, leads the guests in a toast.
At the venue, photographs of the conferment ceremony held in Tokyo last December and of Dr. Nakajima’s audience with His Majesty the Emperor of Japan at the Imperial Palace were on display along with her books on Japanese language education.
Guests enjoy the reception.
Brands of Japanese sake were also served.
