Reception Celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the Sakura Donation to High Park, as well as the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan

His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, wishing for further strengthening of Japan-Ontario relations.

On May 3, Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito held a reception at her official residence celebrating the 60th anniversary of the donation of Sakura (Japanese flowering cherry) trees to High Park, as well as the enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor Naruhito. The reception was attended by approximately80 guests including representatives from government, business, the cultural community, the Japanese community, Japanese businesses, alumni of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme and the MEXT Japanese Government Scholarships programs, as well as Toronto’s consular corps. After the national anthems of Japan and Canada were played, remarks were given by Consul-General Ito, as well as a Executive Board Member of the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary League, MPYasmin Ratansi, who spoke on behalf of the guests. Ontario Provincial Parliament Deputy Speaker Rick Nicholls conveyed a congratulatory message from Premier Doug Ford, while Senator Victor Oh of Canada led everyone in attendance in a toast.
