On Oct. 28, Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito gave opening remarks at the Toronto Japanese Garden Club’s 66th Annual Fall Flowers and Bonsai Exhibition, held at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre as an official commemorative event of the 90th anniversary of Japan-Canada diplomatic relations. The show featured a wide variety of gardening arts, including chrysanthemums and potted plants, and awarded prizes to outstanding works. Works of bonsai were also exhibited, some commemorating the 90th anniversary. One work featured moss and a moose ornament while another utilized white pines as a symbol of Ontario. There were also workshops on bonsai as well as an exhibit and workshop on ikebana.
