representatives of the municipalities of Lindsay and Nayoro and their exchange and twinning committees.
On Aug. 23, Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito visited the community of Lindsay in Kawartha Lakes, Ontario. Lindsay established a twin relationship with the City of Nayoro in Hokkaido in 1969, and the two communities for nearly 50 years have been conducting a variety of cultural, sports and people-to-people exchanges. This year, in addition to high school students, a delegation including Deputy Mayor Masamichi Hashimoto and City Council Vice-Chair Yasushi Sato visited Lindsay from Nayoro.
Taking the opportunity of this visit, Consul-General Ito presented the Lindsay-Nayoro Twinning Committee of Lindsay and the Nayoro-Lindsay Friendship Committee of Nayoro with the Consul-General’s Commendation in recognition of their long history of fruitful ties. The presentation was made with Kawartha Lakes Mayor Andy Letham and members of Kawartha Lakes City Council in attendance. A 50th anniversary commemorative event is scheduled to be held in Nayoro in 2019.
While in Lindsay, Consul-General Ito also visited a local beer brewery and a Japanese car dealership. She was also interviewed by Kawartha Lakes This Week.
