Canadian Association for Japanese Language Education (CAJLE) Annual Conference.

On Aug. 21, Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito attended the opening of the Canadian Association for Japanese Language Education (CAJLE) Annual Conference being held at Huron University College in London, Ontario. CAJLE, the objective of which is to promote Japanese language education, has been active since 1988, making this year its 30th anniversary. This year’s conference is also one of the official commemorative events of the 90th anniversary of Japan-Canada diplomatic relations.

In her remarks, Consul-General Ito recounted how the promotion of the Japanese language in Canada had not always been easy. She commended the Japanese language educators who, despite obstacles, created today’s environment in which students who wish to take university Japanese courses are increasing. She said an increase in Japanese language students in Canada can lead to further deepening of understanding between Japan and Canada, and extended her wishes for the success of this year’s conference as well as for CAJLE’s continued success in its activities.
