On May 25, Consul-General of Japan Takako Ito visited Collingwood, Ontario, which is a sister city of Katano in Osaka Prefecture. The Consul-General met with Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper, members of Collingwood Town Council, and Federal MP Kellie Leitch, whose riding includes the town. As well, the Consul-General gave a presentation on such aspects of Japan as its geography, culture, history and economy to high school students at the Collingwood Collegiate Institute. She also toured the glass factory of Pilkington Glass Canada, an affiliate of Japan’s Nippon Sheet Glass.
Katano and Collingwood entered into a sister city agreement in 1981, and still continue to hold regular exchanges. The Friendship Garden in Collingwood is dedicated to its ongoing relationship with Katano.
