JAPAN NOW Lecture Series: University of California in Berkeley’s Dr. TJ Pempel on Japan’s “Developmentalism”

Dr. TJ Pempel of the University of California, Berkley, gives a presentation at Massey Hall as part of the JAPAN NOW Lecture Series.

On Sept. 22, University of California in Berkeley Professor TJ Pempel gave a lecture entitled “Dismantling Japanese Developmentalism” at the University of Toronto’s Massey Hall. The presentation was the 13th instalment of the JAPAN NOW Lecture Series which began in 2015. This was the first of the series for this academic year, and also the first to be hosted by the new Centre for the Study of Global Japan at the U of T’s Munk School of Global Affairs. In the audience were U of T researchers and students, as well as members of the general public, all of whom listened to Dr. Pempel’s lecture attentively and enthusiastically asked questions afterwards.
 

Opening remarks by Dr. Louis Pauly, Interim Director of the U of T’s Centre for the Study of Global Japan,
included information on the new Centre established earlier this year with support from the Government of Japan.
