Ceremony to Confer Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, to Ms. Nancy Jacobi
2026/9/16

On September 11, a ceremony was held at the Official Residence of the Consul-General of Japan in Toronto to present the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, to Ms. Nancy Jacobi, Founder and former CEO of the Japanese Paper Place, who was among the recipients of this year’s Spring Imperial Decorations.
In 1982, Ms. Jacobi established the Japanese Paper Place in Toronto, a wholesale and retail distributor of Washi (Traditional Japanese paper). As the company’s representative, Ms. Jacobi has contributed to the development of international supply networks for Washi at a time when it had yet to gain the international recognition it enjoys today, and was a pioneer in sharing the appeal of Washi, a traditional craft with a history spanning 1,400 years, with Canadian artists and the general public through lectures and exhibitions. In doing so, she has played a significant role in promoting Japanese culture and advancing exchange between Japan and Canada.
