2026/9/15

On September 10, a ceremony was held at the Official Residence of the Consul-General of Japan in Toronto to present the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, to Japanese contemporary calligrapher Ms. Noriko Maeda, who was among the recipients of this year’s Spring Imperial Decorations. Ms. Maeda, a resident of Waterloo, has dedicated herself to teaching and promoting calligraphy in Canada for over 30 years as an outstanding instructor, passing on both the skills and soul of Japanese calligraphy. She also founded "Shodo Canada" and has organized the Japanese Calligraphy Competition in Canada 18 times to date, continuing to provide valuable opportunities for those learning calligraphy in Canada to deepen their practice.
