JET Programme 2026 Farewell Reception

On July 31, a farewell reception was held at the Consulate-General of Japan in Toronto, honoring the 60 departing participants of this year's JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme) from Toronto.

In his opening remarks, Consul-General Matsunaga Takeshi expressed his hope that the participants — CIRs (Coordinators for International Relations), ALTs (Assistant Language Teachers), and SEAs (Sports Exchange Advisors), the last of which is participating from Canada for the first time in 20 years — would have a meaningful experience in Japan as part of the JET Programme, which has seen more than 10,000 Canadians taking part over the past approximately 40 years, and that their time in Japan would help further promote exchanges between Japan and Canada. In turn, this year's JET Programme participant, Ms. Vandhana Kammampati, made an address on behalf of her fellow departing participants, sharing her aspirations for the programme. Members of JETAA (JET Alumni Association) Toronto were also in attendance, offering valuable advice and encouragement to those about to embark on their journey to Japan.
