Japanese Cultural Presentation during Asian Heritage Month

2026/6/1
In Canada, May is designated as Asian Heritage Month. On May 13, at Marvin Heights Public School in the City of Mississauga, Kyowa Taiko, the taiko drumming group of the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, presented an introduction to taiko drumming. In addition, on May 26, the Asian Heritage Month event “East Asian Heritage Celebration” was held at Milliken Mills High School in the City of Markham. While various groups from across Asia presented distinctive music and dance, the Kochi Prefecture Yosakoi Ambassador KIZUNA International Team performed yosakoi dance to great acclaim. At the Japanese cultural booth hosted by our office, many participants enjoyed kendama, origami, and an introduction to hiragana and katakana.
