Commemorative Ceremonies Marking the 50th Anniversary of the Sister-City Relationship Between the City of Hamilton and the City of Fukuyama
2026/4/20

On April 13, a delegation headed by Mr. IMAOKA Yoshinori, Chair of the Fukuyama City Council in Hiroshima Prefecture, visited Hamilton City Council, where they joined Her Worship Mayor Andrea Horwath and city councillors for a signing ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between the two cities. That afternoon, a rose-planting ceremony was held at Gage Park, hosted by the Hamilton Chapter of the National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) and the Canadian Japanese Cultural Centre of Hamilton (CJCC). In addition to representatives from both cities, members of the Ontario Hiroshima Prefectural Association and the local Japanese Canadian community attended to celebrate the 50th anniversary. Consul-General Matsunaga’s remarks at both ceremonies can be found here.
