2025 JET Programme Welcome Back Reception

Consul-General Matsunaga, MPP Wai, returning JET participants and Alumni Association members 

n December 17, Consul-General Matsunaga hosted a reception to welcome the JET Programme participants from Ontario who returned to Ontario after completing their term in Japan this year.

At the reception, MPP Daisy Wai, Ontario's Parliamentary Assistant for Minister for Citizenship and Multiculturalism, welcomed the Ontario JET participants back to their home countries and praised the JET Programme for its long-standing and significant role in promoting friendly relations between Japan and Ontario.

Speaking on behalf of the JET returnees, Mr.Michael Puzio said that his three years teaching English in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, were one of his most rewarding and transformative experiences. Read his contributed article about his experience in Japan here.

Ms. Jenna Zimmer-Jhang, Executive of the JET Alumni Association Toronto Chapter, told the returnees that she has benefited greatly from her involvement with the JET Programme, not only through the meaningful experiences she had while in Japan, but also through the personal connections she has made through alumni associations and other activities since returning to Canada.

The reception was also attended by former JETs active in a variety of fields. The reception provided an opportunity for returnees and alumni to share their experiences in Japan and their outlook for the future.

In his opening remarks, Consul General Matsunaga expressed his hope that people-to-people exchanges through the JET Programme will further contribute to the development of relations between Japan and Canada, two countries that share common values.
