Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Toronto's 62nd Ikebana Show

2025/6/9

The arrangement by Ms. Betty Lou Arai, President of Toronto Chapter

On June 8, the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of Toronto held its 62nd flower exhibition at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. Members from the Toronto chapter, as well as Mississauga and North York, participated, displaying approximately 50 arrangements. Certified instructors Mary Audia, Avery Holm, and Tina Wong demonstrated and explained three distinct Ikenobo styles: Rikka (the oldest style), Shoka (using one to three kinds of floral materials), and Freestyle—showcasing the natural beauty unique to Ikenobo. Attendees enjoyed both the demonstrations and the finished works. Consul-General Matsunaga delivered opening remarks, introducing Ikenobo as the oldest and largest school of ikebana, outlining its origins and development, and highlighting its philosophy of "living together by making the most of others." He also expressed his gratitude to the members for their many years of volunteer teaching at the Centre, preserving the beauty and harmony of Ikenobo.
