East Asian Heritage Celebration
2025/5/28

On May 22, the "East Asian Heritage Celebration: Honoring Culture, Building Connections" event was held at Unionville High School in Markham in celebration of Asian Heritage Month. A diverse array of Asian organizations showcased the unique musical, dance, and martial arts traditions of China, Korea, and Mongolia. Among these captivating performances was Ms. Aiko Fujii's Koto music. Ms. Fujii's exquisite rendition of "Sakura Sakura" was highly praised by the officials of the York Region District School Board, the organizer of the event, as well as by many attendees. The Consulate-General of Japan’s booth highlighted Japanese culture and offered visitors engaging opportunities to experience it firsthand. Many visitors enjoyed hands-on activities such as kendama (a traditional toy), origami, and a beginner's guide to writing hiragana and katakana.
