On May 10, Burlington, which has a twin city relationship with Itabashi City, held a cherry blossom festival. Many citizens enjoyed karate, aikido, and iaido demonstrations, as well as Japanese drumming, Japanese dance, and Yosakoi performances at a packed venue. Children's calligraphy and paintings from Itabashi City and Burlington were also on display at the venue. On the day, Burlington officials, including Mayor Marianne Mead Ward, gave speeches, and Consul-General Matsunaga praised the leadership of Mayor Mead Ward, the dedicated work of the city committee that promotes the twin city relationship, and the efforts of the city's citizens, who value the friendship with Japan and Itabashi City. In Burlington, the rows of cherry trees donated by Itabashi City in spring – and "Itabashi Garden" at the community center throughout the year – are places of relaxation for the City of Burlington's citizens.
