On February 28, a ceremony to confer the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, to Mr. Mitchell Akira Kawasaki, President of the Canadian Japanese Cultural Centre (CJCC) of Hamilton who received the Autumn 2024 Imperial Decoration, was held at the residence of the Consul-General of Japan in Toronto. In addition to serving for many years as President of the CJCC, a place where Japanese culture and traditions are preserved and passed on in Hamilton, Mr. Kawasaki is also a renowned judo master who trains students who have participated in world championships or represented Canada in the Olympics. He was decorated in recognition of his contributions toward promoting Japanese culture in Canada and friendship and goodwill between Japan and Canada. Hamilton City Councillor Tammy Hwang was also in attendance and delivered congratulatory remarks. Consul-General Matsunaga Takeshi's congratulatory speech is here.
