Application deadline (Completed applications must be received by): Friday, May 29, 2026
Duration: 2 years, beginning in April 2027 or 18 months, beginning in October 2027
In some cases, an extension may be possible if you proceed to a further degree program.
Field of Study: For graduate studies (non-degree, masters or doctorate) in any university subjects.
Outline of eligibility:
Academic Background: Bachelor’s degree or higher
Age: born on or after April 2, 1992 (for the 2027 recruitment)
Study area: the same field that the applicant has studied, or a related field
Nationality: Canadian
Departure date: April or September/October 2027
Placement at University: Designated by MEXT, based on your admission or a letter of provisional acceptance you obtain from Japanese universities.
Selection process:
1. Application documents review
2. Examination (Japanese and English) and Interview: early to mid-July
3. Results of the 1st screening notification: late July
4. Obtain letters of provisional acceptance
5. Acceptance notification: following January - February
