Ms. Setoyama Chako Hisako, who was conferred
the Foreign Minister Commendation,
Mr. James Matsumoto and
Consul-General of Japan in Toronto Matsunaga Takeshi
On October 25, a conferment ceremony for Ms. Setoyama Chako Hisako, a recipient of the 2024 Foreign Minister’s Commendation, was held at the official residence of the Consul-General of Japan in Toronto. At the outset, Consul-General Matsunaga Takeshi delivered a celebratory statement and stated that Ms. Setoyama was awarded the commendation in recognition of her contributions to friendship between Japan and Canada through various activities, including promoting mutual understanding between Japan and Canada through the planting of Sakura cherry blossom trees, helping children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake attain self-sufficiency, as well as supporting the promotion of exchange between youths in Japan and Canada. This was followed by a speech by Ms. Setoyama, as well as congratulatory remarks by her eldest son, Mr. Daniel Setoyama, and a toast raised by Ms. Setoyama’s partner, Mr. James Matsumoto.
