Recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendation for FY 2024

On Aug. 1, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2024. Within the jurisdiction of the Consulate-General of Japan in Toronto, the following individuals and organization were awarded the Commendations due to their exceptional accomplishments.

Reason for Commendation: Promotion of Japanese culture in Canada
Nagata Kiyoshi
(Music Director, Wadaiko player)
Reason for Commendation: Promotion of Japanese culture in Canada
Setoyama Chako Hisako
(Support Our Kids in Toronto - Chair, Sakura Project in Toronto - Chair)
Reason for Commendation: Promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Canada
Michael Tremblay
("Ki Modern Japanese + Bar" Beverage Director)
Reason for Commendation: Promotion of Japanese food & sake culture in Canada
2. Organization
SIO (Sake Institute of Ontario)
Achievement: Promotion of Japanese food & sake culture in Canada
The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.
