The 42nd Ontario Japanese Speech Contest was held on March 2. Consul-General Matsunaga Takeshi addressed the contestants in his opening remarks, saying, "Learning foreign languages is a manifest gesture of valuing social and cultural diversity, and of giving importance to ties that bind people to one another," then adding, "your having chosen Japanese language to learn is an unequivocal gesture of goodwill between you and Japan.... Thank you."
