2022/9/16

WE HAVE NOW REACHED CAPACITY WITH RESPECT TO THE SPACE ALLOWED FOR THIS LECTURE AND ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS. THE INFORMATION BELOW IS FOR YOUR REFERENCE ONLY. WE ASK FOR YOUR KIND UNDERSTANDING.
If you're interested in learning how to capture a moment in time and evoke scenes of nature in a few short lines, join us on October 27 as we explore Haiku characteristics and construction with Ms. Kimiko Horne! All levels and ages welcome!
We also encourage all attendees to participate in the following online Haiku event, “Swirling Sakura Haiku Challenge” starting on October 28th.
As space is limited, please review the requirements and details below. As the lecture will be conducted in English, Japanese language skill and knowledge are not necessary.
1. What’s Haiku poetry?
Haiku was born in Japan and is the world’s shortest form of poetry. A traditional Japanese Haiku is expressed in 17-syllables (5-7-5) and some poets write more or less. Haiku uses simple expressions in a way that allows felt emotions and has a rule which requires that a word that is identified with a particular season is used (Kigo).
