On March 19, Consul-General of Japan in Toronto SASAYAMA Takuya attended the opening ceremony of Japan Bowl Ontario 2022, an event now in its fifth year and which was held online. He also presented the Japan Bowl Ontario Organizing Committee with the Consul-General's Commendation in recognition of its contributions toward promoting understanding of Japan among young people in this province.

The Japan Bowl is a quiz competition in which teams consisting of three members test their knowledge of Japan’s language, culture, society, lifestyle, history, current affairs, and more. Japan Bowl Ontario has been held every year since 2018 and is celebrating its 5th anniversary. Its Organizing Committee was established in 2017 and is comprised of five volunteer members, including representatives of the faculty of Huron University and the Executive Director of the Japan Society Canada. They carry out all of the organization and implementation of the competition, including composing the quiz questions, outreach to sponsors and support organizations, and public relations.

The Japan Bowl Ontario was implemented as an opportunity for high school students in the province to demonstrate the fruits of their learning efforts, interact with peers with the same interests, and learn more about Japan-Canada relations.
