Consul-General Sasayama Visits Kawartha Lakes

On Oct. 20, Consul-General of Japan SASAYAMA Takuya visited Kawartha Lakes and met with local Deputy Mayor Patrick O'Reilly. They discussed the municipality’s exchanges with Japan. Lindsay, which became a part of Kawartha Lakes due to amalgamation, has conducted exchange with the City of Nayoro in Hokkaido since 1969.

The Consul-General also met with Ms. Heather Lindsay Blackwood Newman, Chair of the Lindsay-Nayoro Twinning Committee, along with her husband. Ms. Newman has been active in strengthening friendship between Japan and Canada through the exchanges between the sister cities. In recognition of her work, she was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays in 2019. The Consul-General also used the opportunity of this visit to go to Nayoro Park in Lindsay.
