Her Worship Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga

Her Worship Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of Mississauga, graciously participated in the Consulate-General of Japan’s “Moonlight Haiku Challenge” social media campaign by sending us her haiku:

Missing Kariya
Our friends under the same moon
Far across the sea

Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the twinning of Mississauga with Kariya in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture. The video message Mayor Crombie generously provided with her haiku can be seen here: https://www.facebook.com/JapanConsToronto/videos/3359255174194596/?extid=gerdzRHsyWpmhW5Z

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Her Worship for her beautiful poem.

Through the month of September, the Consulate-General of Japan in Toronto is bringing the traditional practice of Tsukimi (moon viewing) to Canada with the Moonlight Haiku Challenge (#MoonlightHaikuChallenge). As safety practices continue to keep many of us apart, the campaign invites poets (as well as poets at heart) to connect with the community by sharing their appreciation of the moon through haiku on social media.
