On March 5, Consul-General of Japan ITO Takako attended the screening of the film "Kampai! Sake Sisters" at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC).  This event, attended by approximately 250 people, was an event held by the JCCC in support of International Women’s Day, and also featured a sake tasting led by Ms. TAJIRI Mariko, an international sake promoter and educator.  In her remarks preceding the screening, Consul-General Ito explained that more women are succeeding in Japan’s sake industry, and that the sake with which women "fall in love" carries both Japan’s tradition and potential.  She also hoped that attendants would visit Japan in the future to experience the sake of different regions in the country along with their local cuisine.  A booth was provided by the JCCC before and after the film, where attendants could sample sake and enjoy discussing this traditional Japanese drink.
