Consul-General Matsunaga confers the Foreign Minister's
Commendation to Ms. Sugiyama

On July 4, Consul-General of Japan MATSUNAGA Takeshi held a ceremony at his official residence to handover the Foreign Minister's Commendaion conferred to Ms. Constance L. Sugiyama.

Ms. Sugiyama's service to the promotion of consular and migration affairs has contributed to the friendship and goodwill between Japan and the world. This commendation was awarded by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to express the Minister's profound respect for Ms. Sugiyama's remarkable achievements.

As a board member of the Japanese Canadian Redress Foundation from 1989 to 1993 as well as its legal adviser from 1994 to 2002, Ms. Sugiyama supported the improvement of the status of Japanese Canadians, who had been forced to endure a history of hardship during and after World War II, Through the government's apology and redress agreement, as well as the implementation of the agreement.

Furthermore, as one of the most hightly regarded corporate lawyers in Canada, Ms. Sugiyama supported, in the late 1980s and beyond, the development of the economic relations between Japan and Canada.
