Commendation to Mr. Macdonald
On June 26, Consul-General of Japan MATSUNAGA Takeshi held a ceremony at his official residence to handover the Foreign Minister's Commendation conferred on Mr. William Atwood Macdonald.
Mr. Macdonald has been intrumental in the promotion of economic relations between Japan and Canada, contributing to the friendship and goodwill between Japan and the world. This commendation was awarded by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to express the Minister's profound respect for Mr. Macdonald's remarkable achievements.
Mr. Macdonald greatly contributed to Honda's advance into Canada in 1986 by assessing candidate manufacturing sites as the automaker's special counsel. He also supported the promotion of economic relations between Japan and Canada through helping establish the Japan Society in 1989 among other things. Furthermore, he has donated a collection of over 300 pieces of Japanese and Japan-influenced porcelain, which was collected over many years, to the Gardiner Museum, greatly contributing to promoting the understanding on Japanese culture in Canada.
