Ceremony Confers the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, to Mr. Réal Tanguay

On Jan. 23, Consul-General of Japan ITO Takako held a ceremony at her official residence to confer the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, to Mr. Réal Tanguay in recognition of his contributions to the strengthening of economic relationship between Japan and Canada and the development of the Japanese automotive industry through his work in the automotive sector. The conferment ceremony was attended by the mayors of Cambridge and Woodstock where Toyota has production facilities, representatives of the automotive sector and Japanese businesses, and friends and family. Following the ceremony a celebratory reception was held.

Mr. Tanguay joined Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. in 1991 where he established the use of the Japanese production philosophies kaizen and just in time. He greatly contributed to improving the status of Japanese companies domestically and internationally by streamlining and increasing the scale of production and improving quality. He also actively promoted youth exchange through ice hockey between Japan and Canada. After retirement, he advised the federal and Ontario governments as Auto Advisor, working to improve the competitiveness of Canada’s automotive industry. He also accompanied Ontario cabinet ministers on their trade missions to Japan, strengthening the economic relationship between Japan and Canada.
