The Sakura Committee is made up of prominent volunteers who devote their time and effort to promoting friendship between Japan and Canada in their professional lives as well. Below you will find information on each of the seven individual members:
Eiji Yamamoto , Chair
Mr. Yamamoto is the Consul-General of Japan in Toronto. Prior to coming to Canada, he served as Assistant Vice-Minister ( Crisis Management ), Deputy Director-General for South Asia and Deputy Director-General for Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . He graduated from Soka University with an LLB in 1980, and obtained a MA from Harvard University in 1983. His past overseas diplomatic positions include the post of Minister at the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Korea and Minister, Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations.
John Craig, Vice-Chair
Mr. Craig is Counsel for Davis LLP and Chair of the Japan Soceity. Fomerly Partner at McMillan, his accomplishments during his 40 years in the legal profession include his service as the President of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and chairing its General Conference in Tokyo in 2001. Mr. Craig has advised more than 70 Japanese companies during his career.
Scott
Fujita
Mr. Fujita is a former Senior Landscape Architect whose expertise has
proven invaluable to the Sakura Committee. His past projects include
the Mississauga City Hall, McMichael Canadian Collection Gallery
and the Canadian Embassy in Beijing. He also oversaw various projects for Salmona Tregunno Inc.
Sid
Ikeda
Mr. Ikeda is Special Ambassador of the Japanese Canadian Cultural
Centre for which he served as President for a total of nine years.
He is the founder and Chairman of the Japanese and Canadian Community
Network Organization, founding member, former President and present
Director for the Canadian Multicultural Council-Asians in Ontario,
and is active in a wide variety of numerous other organizations.
Professionally, he is the President of the Ikeda Consultant Company.
James
Matsumoto
President of JME Inc. and ShowFlex International Inc., Mr. Matsumoto
is also an active member of the Forrest Hill Rotary Club and current President the Association of Japanese Canadian Businesses and
Professionals. Through his business and volunteer activities Mr.
Matsumoto is a dedicated supporter of the Japanese community in
Toronto.
