Consul-General Pays Courtesy Call on
Ontario Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade
On Nov. 17, Consul-General of Japan Yasunori Nakayama paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Michael Chan, Ontario’s Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade. The Consul-General and Minister Chan exchanged views on trade relations between Japan and Ontario, as well as on Canada’s immigration policies.
Consul-General Nakayama gave an overview on exchange programs such the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, as well as on the Japanese Canadian community in Ontario. He expressed hope for increased exchange between Japan and the province in the future. Minister Chan explained Ontario’s plans on trade expansion and multiculturalism, as well as policies on attracting foreign workers. He also expressed interest in further exchange with the local Japanese Canadian community.
