Consul-General Yamamoto Visits Mayor of Timmins

On June 14, Consul-General of Japan in Toronto Eiji Yamamoto visited His Worship Tom Laughren, the Mayor of the City of Timmins situated approximately 700 km north of Toronto. The two men exchanged views on Timmins’s sister-city relationship with Naoshima in Japan (located in Kagawa Prefecture) as well as the economic conditions in Timmins and its economic relationship with Japan.
The Consul-General extended his congratulations on the 100th anniversary of Timmins, and expressed his sympathies with respect to the forest fires that have plagued the municipality.
Mayor Laughren warmly welcomed Mr. Yamamoto, and said he has much hope for the future development of Timmins and the local mining industry as well as its friendship to Japan.
In addition to the courtesy call on the mayor, Consul-General Yamamoto met with representatives from the city’s economic development office and its Chamber of Commerce. He also visited representative companies of local industries such as lumber and biotechnology, observing and exchanging information and opinions.
