Gathering to Celebrate Spring
On May 6, a Celebration of Spring Reception was held by Consul-General of Japan Yasunori Nakayama and his wife, Mrs. Chizuko Nakayama, at their official residence. Starting with the Mayors of Mississauga and Woodstock, opinion leaders and representatives from government, business and cultural communities were in attendance. A performance on the Koto was provided by Ms. Saori Peacock, and tea ceremonies were held by the Toronto Urasenke Tankokai Association. Many of the guests enjoyed the warm sunshine as well as maccha tea and sweets.
At the same time, Mr. Jack Howard, former Librarian-in-Chief of the H.H. Mu Far Eastern Library of the Royal Ontario Museum, received the Consul-General's Commendation, and Mr. Shigeo Kimura, Owner and Chef of the Ginko Restaurant, was a appointed Goodwill Ambassador for Japanese Cuisine. Contributions were also being collected for the relief efforts for the recent Kumamoto Earthquake.
