Raising a Glass to Celebrate Sake Day
October 1, as designated by the industry group Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association, is Sake Day to celebrate the joys of the traditional Japanese alcoholic beverage. Toronto marked the occasion with a special event organized by the Sake Institute of Ontario. Among the attendants was Consul General of Japan in Toronto, Mr. Eiji Yamamoto.

This was the second time the event was held by the Sake Institute. This year, the venue was the Japan Foundation, Toronto’s event space which was filled with approximately 100 attendants made up of sake enthusiasts as well as representatives of the restaurant industry. Tastings of various brands of sake were available for everyone’s enjoyment.

The Sake Institute of Ontario is a not-for-profit corporation whose member organizations include all of Ontario’s major sake import agencies and its sole sake producer. In addition to Sake Day, the Institute organized other events such as Kampai Toronto in Toronto’s Distillery District to promote sake among Canadians.
