Consul-General Nakayama Gives Talk on Japan-China Relations at Ryerson University
On Nov. 18, Consul-General of Japan Yasunori Nakayama gave a presentation on Japan-China relations at Ryerson University to students and researchers specializing in international relations. During the subsequent Q&A session, students asked about such topics as how the Japanese and Chinese people regard each other and the current state of youth exchanges between the two countries. This resulted in an enthusiastic and lively discussion.
The Consul-General stated that Japan-China relations was one of the most important bilateral relations for Japan, and that China’s constructive role was indispensible to the stability and prosperity of the Asia Pacific region. The Consul-General said it was important to promote concrete cooperation and exchange with China from the perspective of the “mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interest”. He also said it was important to promote China’s involvement in building a free and open regional order based on the rule of law, and to strengthen Japan-China exchanges on various levels including the political, economic, youth and grass roots levels, thereby improving China’s sentiments toward Japan.
