Consul-General Yamamoto Visits Perth
Perth has been called "the pretties town in Ontario".
On Oct. 10, Consul-General of Japan Eiji Yamamoto visited Perth, Ontario, paying a courtesy call on Mayor John Fenik with whom he exchanged opinions on the town’s twin relations with Asago in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture.
Perth is located approximately 300 km northeast of Toronto on the shores of the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town has been twnned with Asago since 2000, and the Mayor himself has visited Japan because of this.
Mayor Fenik explained that almost every year for the past 10 years, Perth has welcomed several Japanese exchange students from Asago. He also described the local economy which is attracting advanced technological industries such as parts manufacturers for electric cars.
Consul-General Yamamoto expressed his appreciation and admiration for the success of Perth’s relationship with Asago. He also expressed hope for future development of industrial and other forms of exchange with Japan.
The Consulate-General of Japan intends to continue fostering relations with regions within its jurisdiction.
