Culture and Celebration at National Day Hosted by the Consul-General
Consul-General of Japan Yasunori Nakayama gives remarks at the National Day Reception.
On Nov. 28, Consul-General of Japan Yasunori Nakayama, along with his wife, Mrs. Chizuko Nakayama, hosted the National Day Reception at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. In attendance were approximately 400 guests, including The Hon. David Zimmer, Ontario’s Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, and The Hon. Helena Jaczek, the province’s Minister of Community and Social Services, as well as a Member of Parliament, Members of Provincial Parliament, Mayors and Municipal Councillors and others. Presentation of Japanese culture included a performance by the local taiko drumming ensemble Nagata Shachu; a ceremonial opening of a sake barrel by dignitaries; tastings of sake from Sagamihara, a sister-city of Toronto located in Kanagawa Prefecture; distribution of tourism brochures by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) as well as projection of a JNTO tourism DVD on the big screen.
