Academic exchange among students and researchers was a recurring topic of discussion when Consul-General of Japan Eiji Yamamoto visited McMaster University in Hamilton on April 8. On campus, the Consul-General met with the university's President, Dr.Patrick Deane, as well as Dr. Peter Mascher, Acting Associate Vice-President, Office of International Affairs.
McMaster already has exchange partners among Japanese universities. However, Dr. Deane said Canadian universities in general wish to be more strategic in sending students abroad and forming increased partnerships internationally. He therefore welcomed Consul-General Yamamoto's offer of support in such activities.
The Consul-General also gave a presentation to students and faculty on Japan's position in Asia as well as its relations with Canada. Here also, he restated his hope for increased academic exchange between the two countries.
