President of Japanese Social Services Awarded Foreign Minister's Commendation
Mr. Takeo Maekawa, President of Japanese Social Services (JSS), received a commendation from Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs. A conferment ceremony was held at the official residence of the Consul-General of Japan in Toronto on August 28.
Mr. Maekawa was recognized for his immense contributions in safeguarding the welfare of Japanese in Canada. Consul-General Eiji Yamamoto presented the commendation to Mr. Maekawa on behalf of Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba.
JSS is a nonprofit charitable organization recognized by the Government of Canada, It operates within Ontario with Toronto as its base, providing support in both Japanese and English to people in need whose lifestyles are strongly influenced by Japanese culture. Mr. Maekawa has worked tirelessly as the President of JSS for more than 10 years, helping distressed people with Japanese cultural background by offering counselling, information, advocacy and seminars.
