Ambassador Ishikawa Visits the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario
Ambassador of Japan to Canada Kaoru Ishikawa, with Consul-General Eiji Yamamoto, visited the Honourable Dave Levac, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, on April 23. The Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the many people in Ontario who supported Japan after the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011. The Ambassador also expressed his appreciation for being given the opportunity to address the Ontario Legislature in April last year as the first foreign dignitary to do so since Bishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa 25 years ago. The Ambassador also explained Japan’s recovery efforts, as well as how Japan-Canada relations are developing, particularly in the area of scientific and technological exchange. The Speaker in response expressed his admiration for the resilience displayed by the Japanese people during the ongoing recovery, and his pleasure at knowing how cooperation between the two countries are deepening.
