2014 JET Participants Depart for Japan
The 2014 JET pariticipants who were selected in Toronto
Sixty-seven participants of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme selected in Toronto attended an orientation on August 1 to prepare them for their departure to Japan the following day. A reception followed the orientation and was attended also by Acting Consul General Tetsuya Yoshimoto, Toronto Star City Hall Bureau Chief and JET almnus David Rider, as well as representatives from the JET Alumni Association, the Japan Foundation and various other organizations in the Japanese and Japanese Canadian community.
JET participants work in the public school system as Assistant Language Teachers in English language education or in public offices as Coordinators for International Relations. During their stay in Japan, JETs have the opportunity to experience Japanese culture first-hand, as well as to enhance mutual understanding between Japan and their home countries.
The JET Programme enters its 28th year and 180 participants from across Canada will take part. There will be a total of 1525 new participants from about 39 countries taking part in JET. Combined with participants already working at local schools and communities across Japan, this makes a total of approximately 4300 JETs in Japan this year.
