New JET Participants Depart for Japan
Toronto participants on the 27th annual Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme departed for Japan on August 3. The Consulate General of Japan held a reception in their honour on August 2 at the Park Hyatt Toronto.
The JET Programme invites recent university graduates to Japan to teach English in public schools and participate in other international activities in regions throughout Japan.

In attendants at the reception were all of the participants selected in Toronto, except for two who already departed in April. Sixty of the 61 new JETs in attendance departed for Japan the following day.

Acting Consul General of Japan Tetsuya Yoshimoto in his remarks commended the participants’ efforts during the three-month orientation period, and expressed hope that the participants will contribute toward Japan-Canada relations in their respective postings.

In addition to the new participants, the reception was attended by representatives of the JET Alumni Association, the local Japanese community, university educators and others.
