40,000 Revelers Celebrate Mississauga Japan Festival and the 35th Anniversary
of The Sister City Relationship Between Mississauga & Kariya

On July 10th, the cities of Mississauga and Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, celebrated the 35th anniversary of their sister city relationship at Celebration Square in Mississauga. Consul-General Yasunori Nakayama, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie and former Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion attended the commemorative ceremony along with Mississauga Japan Festival Committee Chairman Teruyuki Wakasa. Mississauga is home to a large number of Japanese companies and many of them participated in the festival, helping to make the event a huge success.
The festival was the largest Japan-related festival in Canada and had an estimated 40,000 visitors, one of the largest crowds at an event at Celebration Square. It was a great success for the sponsor booths and Japanese food vendors. At the festival, the Consulate-General of Japan presented a concert by J-pop group ”Niji no Conquistador (Nijicon)” to introduce pop culture from Japan. Also at the Consulate-General of Japan booth Ministry of Foreign Affairs magazine "Nipponica" were distributed.
