U of T Students Organize Expert Panel on Today's Japan
About 120 people were in attendance at Japan Today, a panel discussion organized by
the Contemporary Asian Studies Student Union (CASSU) at the University of Toronto.
On Oct. 5, Japan Today, a panel discussion by renowned experts on contemporary Japan, was held at the University of Toronto by the Contemporary Asian Studies Student Union. The event was a part of the ongoing JAPAN NOW Lecture Series held jointly by the Consulate-General of Japan and the Asian Institute of the Munk School of Global Affairs.
On the panel were: Mr. Joseph Caron, Former Canadian High Comissioner to India and Former Canadian Ambassador to China and Japan, who spoke on Japan’s foreign policies and Japan-Canada relations; Dr. André Sorensen, Professor and Chair, Department of Human Geography, who gave a presentation on the effect of Japan’s declining population on its cities; and Dr. David Welch, Professor and Centre for International Governance Innovation Chair in Global Security, Political Science, University of Waterloo, who spoke on Japan’s security with respect to its Constitution.
Dr. Stephen Toope, the Director of the Munk School moderated, while Consul-General Yasunori Nakayama gave remarks. About 120 people were in attendance.
