Japan Comes to Huron University College
Huron University College of the University of Western Ontario held its annual Japan Day on Nov. 3, and the Japan Information Centre was there. In attendance were many people from the area, as well as students who were studying Japanese.

The Japan Information Centre has been making use of such opportunities, when large numbers of people gather, in order to promote tourism to Japan at a time when less people are visiting the country as a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake of this past March. Centre staff also provided information on the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, as well as loaned omikoshi (portable shrine used in parades) and colourful happi jackets to volunteers and staff. All these helped to give the event the feel of a Japanese festival.

Students gave interesting presentations on Japanese culture and society, including a reading of work by Kenji Miyazawa, a kendo demonstration, and folk dancing.
